Ethio Telecom Services Users Report For 2021/2022
Ethiopia's telecommunications landscape has witnessed a remarkable shift, marked by impressive numbers. Ethio Telecom, the once state-owned monopoly, has seen its subscriber base soar by 18.4% to reach a staggering 66.6 million users in 2021/22. Mobile voice subscribers dominate, accounting for 96.9% of all users, while internet and data services experienced a growth rate of 19.6%. This surge in demand has translated into impressive financial performance, with Ethio Telecom's income surging by 11.5% to Birr 62.2 billion. Despite rising expenses, the company achieved a substantial gross profit of Birr 30.3 billion in 2021/22.
Out of all the subscribers, the majority, which is about 64.5 million people, used mobile phones for voice calls. That's a huge number, accounting for 96.9 percent of all subscribers. About 1.2 million people used Ethio Telecom for internet and data services, making up 1.8 percent of the total. The remaining 885 thousand people, which is 1.3 percent, used Ethio Telecom for fixed voice services, which means they had a landline phone.
